Sao Paulo, Feb 7 (EFE).- Two people were killed and six others hurt in the partial collapse of a 13-story office building in a suburb of Brazil's largest city, authorities said Tuesday.
It was around 8:00 p.m. Monday when a supporting column gave way at the structure, located near the town hall in Sao Bernardo do Campo, part of the Sao Paulo metropolitan area.
One of the dead was identified as a 6-year-old girl who was being treated at a doctor's office in the building. The child's father was hurt, while her mother and the physician got out unscathed.
The body of the second fatality, a 26-year-old nurse, was found Tuesday, but firefighters said they did not expect to discover any more victims, as authorities have accounted for everyone else who was in the building at the time of the collapse.
Though the 40-year-old structure's external walls remain standing, officials ordered a complete evacuation.
Authorities offered no speculation about the cause of the accident, which came two weeks after 17 people died and five were injured in the collapse of three buildings in downtown Rio de Janeiro.
